Perfect for a fast lunch, appetizer, or party snack, these meatballs deliver bold Asian-inspired flavors with simple pantry ingredients and are loved by both kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Meatballs

  • 1 lb ground meat (pork, beef, chicken, or turkey)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 3 green onions, chopped (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs or panko
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

For the Sticky Hoisin Glaze

  • 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water or broth

Optional Garnishes

  • Toasted sesame seeds
  • Chili flakes (optional for spice)
  • Additional chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, minced garlic, minced ginger, chopped green onions, breadcrumbs, egg, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Mix gently but thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated, being careful not to overwork the mixture to keep the meatballs tender.
  2. Shape the Meatballs: Using your hands or a small scoop, form the mixture into bite-sized meatballs approximately 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Keep the sizes uniform for even cooking and a pleasing presentation.
  3. Cook the Meatballs: Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a small amount of oil. Place the meatballs into the pan without crowding them. Cook, turning occasionally, until golden brown and fully cooked through, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  4. Make the Sticky Hoisin Glaze: In a separate small saucepan, combine hoisin sauce, honey or brown sugar, soy sauce, and water or broth. Heat gently, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture starts to thicken into a luscious glaze.
  5. Coat the Meatballs: Add the cooked meatballs back into the skillet and pour the hoisin glaze over them. Toss gently to coat every meatball evenly. Allow the meatballs to simmer for a few minutes so the sauce reduces and clings beautifully.

Notes

  • Let the meatball mixture rest for 10 minutes before shaping to improve texture and binding.
  • Use a cookie scoop or spoon to keep meatballs uniform in size for even cooking.
  • Cook over medium heat to prevent burning the glaze while achieving a perfect sticky finish.
  • Add chopped green onions or toasted sesame seeds at the end for extra crunch and color.
  • Use a non-stick pan to prevent the glaze from sticking and burning while tossing the meatballs.
