Texas Toast Pizza

Texas Toast Pizza

Texas Toast Pizza is an easy, quick, and delicious twist on classic pizza that uses thick, buttery Texas toast as the base, creating a crispy yet soft crust topped with melty cheese and customizable toppings. Perfect for any meal or snack, this recipe comes together in under 20 minutes and can be tailored to fit various dietary needs, including gluten-free options.

Ingredients

Base

  • Thick-cut Texas Toast Bread slices (4-6 slices)
  • Butter or Olive Oil, melted or for brushing (2-3 tbsp)

Sauce

  • Tomato Sauce or Marinara Sauce (about 1/4 cup per slice)

Cheese

  • Shredded Mozzarella Cheese (1 to 1.5 cups)
  • Optional: Sharp Cheddar, Parmesan, Gouda, or cheese blends as desired (1/2 cup)

Toppings

  • Pepperoni slices (1/4 cup)
  • Sliced Mushrooms (1/4 cup)
  • Sliced Bell Peppers (1/4 cup)
  • Optional: Pineapple chunks, olives, spinach, cooked sausage, bacon, grilled chicken, or other preferred toppings (as desired)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Toast Base: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lay out the Texas toast slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or foil. Lightly brush each slice with melted butter or olive oil to achieve a golden, crispy crust.
  2. Add the Sauce: Spoon a generous but thin layer of tomato sauce evenly over each toast slice, leaving a small border around the edges to prevent sogginess. This creates the flavorful base for your toppings.
  3. Sprinkle Cheese and Toppings: Cover the sauce with shredded mozzarella or your choice of cheese. Then add your favorite toppings such as pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, or chicken, keeping it balanced to avoid overloading the bread.
  4. Bake Until Melted and Crispy: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned, and the toast edges are golden crisp. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Remove the pizzas from the oven and let them cool for a couple of minutes. Optionally, sprinkle fresh herbs like basil or oregano, slice into portions, and serve warm as open-faced mini pizzas or sliders.

Notes

  • Use thick-cut Texas toast for the ideal crisp exterior and soft interior.
  • Avoid overloading with toppings to prevent sogginess and difficulty handling.
  • Pre-toast the bread for 3-4 minutes before adding sauce and toppings for extra crispiness.
  • Use fresh, high-quality cheeses for better melt and creaminess.
  • Apply a thin, even layer of sauce to keep the bread from becoming soggy.
