Soft Baked Maple Donut Bars Recipe

Soft Baked Maple Donut Bars are tender, moist bars bursting with rich maple flavor. Easy to bake and perfect for breakfast or snacking, they combine the nostalgic taste of donuts with the convenience of baked bars. Enhanced with cinnamon and real maple syrup, these bars offer a soft crumb and optional maple glaze for a delightful treat any time of day.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure maple extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (room temperature)

Optional Glaze

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a rectangular baking pan or line it with parchment paper to ensure easy removal of the bars after baking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt. This ensures an even distribution of ingredients without clumps.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: Using a hand or stand mixer, beat the softened unsalted butter with the granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, which helps create a soft texture in the bars.
  4. Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in the eggs, maple syrup, and pure maple extract until fully combined. Then, alternately add the dry ingredient mixture and milk to the wet mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined to avoid overmixing.
  5. Bake Until Golden: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The bars should be golden brown and springy to the touch.
  6. Optional Maple Glaze: While the bars are still warm, mix powdered sugar with maple syrup to form a smooth glaze. Drizzle this over the bars and allow them to cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • Bring eggs, butter, and milk to room temperature before mixing for smoother batter blending.
  • Do not overmix the batter; stir just until ingredients are combined to keep the bars tender.
  • Use real maple syrup for best flavor and authentic sweetness.
  • Begin testing for doneness at 20 minutes to avoid overbaking and drying out the bars.
  • Allow the bars to cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing for cleaner cuts.
