Ingredients

Wrappers

  • Rice Paper Wrappers (as needed)

Filling

  • Ground Pork or Chicken – 250g (or preferred protein)
  • Carrots, finely shredded – 1/2 cup
  • Cabbage, finely shredded – 1/2 cup
  • Green Onions, chopped – 2 stalks
  • Garlic, minced – 2 cloves
  • Ginger, minced – 1 tablespoon
  • Soy Sauce – 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame Oil – 1 teaspoon
  • Rice Vinegar or Lime Juice – 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: Combine ground meat or preferred protein with finely chopped vegetables, minced garlic and ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and a splash of rice vinegar in a bowl. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Soften the Rice Paper: Fill a shallow dish with warm water and dip each rice paper wrapper quickly (10-15 seconds) until pliable but not soggy. Lay flat on a clean, damp surface to prevent sticking.
  3. Assemble the Dumplings: Place a spoonful of filling near the edge of the softened rice paper. Fold sides over the filling and roll tightly, similar to a spring roll but gently to avoid tearing. Repeat until all filling is used.
  4. Cook the Dumplings: Choose to steam, pan-fry, or boil dumplings according to preference. Steam for soft texture, pan-fry for a crispy outside and chewy inside, or boil for a delicate finish. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the filling is fully cooked through.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Serve dumplings with your choice of dipping sauce and garnishes such as fresh herbs or toasted sesame seeds. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • Don’t over-soften the rice paper; quick dips keep wrappers intact.
  • Use a damp surface to lay softened wrappers to avoid sticking.
  • Press all folds firmly to seal edges and keep filling inside while cooking.
  • Adjust cooking time based on method used to ensure filling is cooked and desired texture is reached.
  • Make a simple dipping sauce by combining soy sauce, rice vinegar, garlic, and chili to complement dumplings.
