Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 1 lb chicken breast or thighs, cubed

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water or chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced

For Cooking & Garnish

  • 2 tbsp vegetable or canola oil
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Prep the Chicken: Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces and season lightly with salt to help it absorb the flavors better.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken cubes and cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove chicken and set aside.
  3. Make the Sauce: In the same pan, add minced garlic and ginger and sauté briefly until fragrant. Pour in soy sauce, water or broth, and brown sugar. Bring to a gentle simmer to thicken slightly.
  4. Combine Chicken and Sauce: Return the cooked chicken to the pan and toss well to coat each piece in the sauce. Cook together for about 1 minute to blend flavors.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle sliced green onions on top just before serving for freshness and color.

Notes

  • Marinate the chicken briefly in soy sauce to enhance tenderness.
  • Cook chicken in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding and ensure a proper sear.
  • Use fresh garlic and ginger for best flavor.
  • Adjust sweetness by gradually adding brown sugar to taste.
  • For a thicker sauce, mix 1 tsp cornstarch with water and add at the end.
