Easy to prepare and customizable, this warm, comforting treat is ideal for any occasion and brings nostalgic warmth with every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruit Mixture

  • 4 cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)
  • 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Crumble Topping

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour (or almond/oat flour for gluten-free)
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Berries: Wash and dry the mixed berries thoroughly. In a large bowl, combine the berries with sugar and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat and set aside to let the fruit release its natural juices while you prepare the crumble topping.
  2. Make the Crumble Topping: In a separate bowl, mix flour, rolled oats, cinnamon, salt, and sugar. Add cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, blend the butter into the mixture until it forms coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces for a lovely texture after baking.
  3. Assemble the Crumble: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish or casserole. Transfer the berry mixture into the dish, then evenly scatter the crumble topping over the berries, covering completely.
  4. Bake to Perfection: Bake for 40-45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and berry juices are bubbling around the edges. Let it cool slightly before serving to allow the fruit juices to thicken and enhance flavor.

Notes

  • Use fresh or frozen berries; thaw and drain excess liquid if using frozen.
  • Keep butter cold to achieve a crumbly topping.
  • Blend butter with dry ingredients just until crumbs form to avoid a dense topping.
  • Adjust sugar to balance sweetness based on the berries used.
  • If topping browns too quickly, cover loosely with foil while baking.
