Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Base

  • 1/2 cup (115g) butter
  • 3/4 cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup (200g) sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup (95g) all-purpose flour

Mix-ins

  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chunks
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Pan and Ingredients: Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper. Gather and measure all ingredients before starting to ensure a smooth baking process.
  2. Melt Butter and Mix Cocoa: In a medium saucepan, gently melt the butter over low heat. Remove from heat and whisk in the unsweetened cocoa powder and sugar until glossy and combined, forming the chocolate base.
  3. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Lightly beat the eggs in a separate bowl. Gradually add them to the chocolate mixture, stirring quickly to prevent the eggs from cooking. Mix in vanilla extract for enhanced aroma and flavor.
  4. Incorporate Flour: Gently fold the flour into the wet mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix to keep the brownies moist and rich.
  5. Stir in Nuts and Chocolate Chips: Fold in chopped nuts and chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the batter for texture and melty bursts.
  6. Bake and Add Marshmallows: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes. Immediately top with marshmallows and return to oven for 3-5 minutes to lightly toast them.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow brownies to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes to firm up slightly while remaining gooey, making them easier to cut and enjoy.

Notes

  • Use high-quality cocoa powder to enhance chocolate flavor.
  • Do not overbake; remove brownies when a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs for ultimate fudginess.
  • Use room temperature eggs for better batter emulsification.
  • Chill brownies before cutting to achieve cleaner slices.
  • Add marshmallows after baking for perfect melting and toasting.
