Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 4 medium Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, diced small
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced (optional but recommended)

Seasonings & Others

  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • Fresh parsley or chives, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Dice the potatoes into small, even cubes to ensure quick and even cooking. Chop the onion, mince the garlic, and dice any additional vegetables such as bell peppers.
  2. Cook the Potatoes: Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced potatoes and cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and crispy on the outside.
  3. Sauté Aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the potatoes. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the onions are translucent and fragrant.
  4. Brown the Ground Beef: Push the potatoes and aromatics to one side of the skillet. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula, and cook for 6-8 minutes until fully browned and no longer pink.
  5. Season and Combine: Sprinkle in salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and any additional herbs or spices. Stir everything together and cook over medium heat for a couple of minutes to meld the flavors.
  6. Final Touches: Add fresh parsley or chives just before serving for a fresh, vibrant finish. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

Notes

  • Choose small potato cubes to ensure crispiness and faster cooking.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan to keep potatoes crispy; cook in batches if necessary.
  • Allow the ground beef to sear undisturbed briefly for better flavor and texture.
  • Add seasonings gradually to layer flavors without overwhelming the dish.
  • Let the skillet rest off heat for a few minutes before serving to enhance the taste.
