Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ranch seasoning mix (plus extra for seasoning)
  • 12 tablespoons cooking oil

Sauce

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or 4 oz cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon ranch seasoning mix (additional for sauce)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Season the chicken breasts or thighs with salt, pepper, and a sprinkle of ranch seasoning mix for extra flavor. Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat and sear the chicken until golden brown on each side, about 4-5 minutes per side. This locks in the juicy flavors before simmering.
  2. Make the Ranch Sauce: In the same pan, reduce heat to medium-low and sauté the finely chopped onions and minced garlic until fragrant and translucent. Pour in the chicken broth to deglaze the pan, scraping up all the browned bits. Stir in sour cream or cream cheese along with the remaining ranch seasoning, allowing it to melt into a smooth, thick sauce.
  3. Simmer the Chicken: Return the seared chicken to the pan, coating it with the creamy ranch sauce. Cover and simmer on low heat for 10-15 minutes, letting the chicken cook through and absorb the flavors. If desired, sprinkle shredded cheese on top during the last few minutes to melt.
  4. Final Touches: When the chicken is cooked through and the sauce is creamy and thickened, gently stir to combine. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed. Garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or chives for a vibrant finish.

Notes

  • Use room temperature chicken to ensure even cooking and juiciness.
  • Don’t skip deglazing the pan – scraping up the browned bits adds depth to the sauce.
  • Adjust sauce thickness by adding more broth if too thick, or simmer longer if too thin.
  • Make your own ranch seasoning blend to control salt and spice levels.
  • Let the chicken rest a few minutes after cooking for maximum tenderness.
