Chicken Breasts Stuffed With Ham and Cheese

Chicken Breasts Stuffed With Ham and Cheese is a quick, easy, and family-friendly dish featuring juicy chicken breasts layered with savory ham and melted cheese. Perfect for weeknight dinners or meal prepping, it offers a crispy exterior with a gooey, flavorful filling that satisfies both kids and adults.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 thin slices of ham
  • 4 oz Gruyère or Swiss cheese, sliced or shredded

Seasonings & Others

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Optional: fresh thyme or parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken Breasts: Using a sharp knife, carefully butterfly each chicken breast by slicing horizontally, not cutting all the way through, creating a pocket for stuffing.
  2. Layer Ham and Cheese: Place a slice of ham inside each pocket followed by a generous amount of cheese. Press the chicken closed to secure the filling.
  3. Season the Chicken: Lightly brush the outside of the chicken breasts with olive oil, then sprinkle salt, pepper, and garlic powder evenly on both sides.
  4. Cook the Chicken: Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the stuffed chicken breasts. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes per side until chicken is fully cooked (internal temperature of 165°F/74°C) and the cheese is melted.
  5. Rest and Serve: Remove the chicken from the pan and let it rest for 2 minutes before slicing to keep the juices sealed and ensure tenderness.

Notes

  • Use thin chicken breasts for easier folding and even cooking.
  • Secure filling with toothpicks if needed to prevent ham and cheese from leaking out.
  • Do not overstuff to avoid chicken bursting during cooking.
  • Preheat pan well for a quick golden crust.
  • Check internal temperature to ensure safe consumption.
