Apple Fritter Waffle Donuts

Apple Fritter Waffle Donuts

Apple Fritter Waffle Donuts combine the warm, comforting flavors of classic apple fritters with the crisp, airy texture of waffles and the fun shape of donuts. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, dessert, or a snack, these donuts offer a delightful blend of cinnamon-spiced apples and golden waffle batter with a tender inside and crispy outside, finished with a sweet powdered sugar glaze.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Fritter Waffle Donuts Batter

  • 1 cup chopped firm apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Powdered Sugar Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk or lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Batter: In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. In another bowl, whisk the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Gradually combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients, stirring just until blended. Gently fold in the chopped apples to keep their texture intact.
  2. Preheat and Grease Your Waffle Iron: Heat your waffle iron to medium-high and lightly grease it with butter or non-stick spray to ensure easy removal and a golden finish.
  3. Cook the Donuts: Pour a small ladle of batter onto the waffle iron, shaping it roughly like a donut (use a donut-shaped waffle iron or a ring mold). Close the lid and cook for 3-5 minutes until the donuts are golden brown and cooked through. Remove carefully and transfer to a cooling rack.
  4. Add the Glaze: While the donuts are still warm but slightly cooled, drizzle the prepared powdered sugar glaze on top for extra sweetness and a beautiful shine.

Notes

  • Choose firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp to prevent mushiness.
  • Mix batter until just combined to keep donuts light and fluffy without tough flour pockets.
  • Batter should be thick enough to hold apples but still pourable.
  • Cook waffles immediately after mixing for best texture and rise.
  • Experiment with spices like cardamom or ground cloves for more warmth.
